Keurig ‘Water Under Pressure’ Fix

* These fixes have worked for us, but some of the methods are not approved by Keurig; as such you must understand that making use of any of the adjustments or other tips given here is done at your own risk. Especially if your machine is under warranty, it is always best to contact Keurig for support before breaking it on your own…

Many of the Keurig brewers will ‘shut down’ if the water pressure becomes to high, halting the brew cycle and displaying the ‘Water Under Pressure’ warning. In the event your machine does shut down due to high water pressure, just remove the pod, then run a single ‘water only’ cycle to reset the error. If the warning keeps returning or will not clear, it could be the ‘needles’ that puncture your pods are clogged with coffee grounds or other gunk. Many machines come with a Needle Maintenance Accessory, if you have been using your machine for awhile you may need to perform this procedure:
1) Power down and unplug the machine, then open the handle.
2) Fill the Maintenance Accessory with water (shown below properly assembled).
3) Insert Maintenance Accessory as if it was a coffee pod.
4) Close and then open the handle 5 times, then remove the accessory.
5) Power the unit back up and run a few ‘cleansing brews’ (hot water only).

Keurig Needle Maintenance Accessory

Sometimes this might not work (or you might not have the maintenance accessory). If so (and your machine is no longer under warranty) you can use an unfolded regular size paper-clip to ‘poke through’ the needles on your unit. Take extreme care as these needles are sharp, and if damaged, may cause your machine to require repair or replacement. Do not use oversize paper-clips or the rubber coated ones, just a normal paper-clip straightened out as much as possible to gently poke through the clogged needles. Then, as we did with the maintenance accessory, run a few cleansing brews and with any luck, you should be ready to brew coffee again.

If you are experiencing this problem with a NEW MACHINE, there are a few things to try before assuming the machine is defective. In some cases, the problem may actually be the coffee pods, we have seen them clog up, or even ‘pop’ the internal filter and allow grounds into your cup. So before doing anything more, try a different brand pod (another kind of coffee) to see if the problem may not be the machine at all.

If that does not seem to help, then try a brew cycle using the ‘strong’ setting (if available), this will slow the machine down, and since the water is not being pumped as fast, may eliminate that water pressure warning. If it does, there is one final setting that might solve your problem without forcing you to brew every cup on the ‘strong’ setting. Enter the setup menu and enable the ‘high altitude’ option, then hit save (if your machine has this option, not all of them will). Though the option would not seem to be related, I think this fixes most lingering water pressure warnings on new machines, if not, then you may have a defective unit and should contact Keurig for support.

Have been having issues with my 2.0 Keurig saying that brewing has been interrupted and use caution when open Under Pressure. Have tried the cleaning the needle for coffee grains, cleaning the unit with white vinegar, changing the filter.( I keep the maker clean) Can brew one 10 oz cup of coffee no problem, however next cup got error message. This has been going on for months. This problem happens with some of the K Pods we used & has happened even with the ones we have ordered from Keurig. Finally got tired called Keurig went through all of the steps with them. They wanted to know what K Pods we used told them the brands. I also told the lady that I buy only the pods that say compatable for the 2.0 . They said since they have not tested the pods in the makers they cannot vouch for them. That we need to use only the K Pods that have Keurig on them. This is a bunch of bull to me. I am about ready to throw this coffee maker in the garbage and get another brand

Tried the high altitude setting. Made it worse. It immediately shuts the brew down now. And this after installing a new needle assembly. This machine is hopeless.

I had lots of issues with the Keurig my son brought me two years ago. I finally after multiple cleanings running water vinegar the apparatus I figured it out!. The water under pressure message kept coming up. This is what I did—I took the pod back out. When it asked if it should dispense water or cancel I chose cancel. This seemed to reboot the Keurig. It then went on to ask what strength coffee. Do not press 1 unless you intend to make a carafe. I chose the strength. When putting back the pod because it always used to say wrong pod I turned the pod so the camera would pick up the writing on the top sides. I now have a working Keurig and can’t stop making coffee. I wish Keurig would have given me this information because it worked ! Don’t push the pod down too far but just gently after inserting. You can use pods you previously used ! Ok I am not throwing the Keurig in the trash after all Keurig Customer Service !

You may try this to get your Keurig to work … Stop filling the reservior to full. only load it to the minimum or just a little over half way full. Each time you make coffee remove the pod and discard it and leave the units head up in the air so the needle is not left in the soggy wet grounds. my Keurig was giving me the water under pressure error message every 2 or 3 cups, was driving me crazy..I tried EVERYTHING I could find on the internet short of dismantling the unit. I tried this..lower the water level and leave the head up to let it stay dry and my Keurig has been working 4 days now without fail and that hasn’t happened for weeks now. I have been using the needle cleaning tool over and over to get just one or two cups and then it gave me the error again. Water low, head high seems to be working for me.

I called and no help I will buy a nespresso and get rid of all 5 of my Kuerig machines. Good Luck I drink approx. 30 to 50 cups a day and do not appreciate the lack of customer service

If you are drinking 50 cups a day, you might want to consider a commercial unit, and decaf…

I did the maintenance procedure as required, ran 4 hot water cycles, saw coffee bits in the first 3 cycles, then the 4th looked good with clean hot water.I put a McDonalds K Cup in for a brew and almost right away I got the error again. This happened with 2 of them that don’t use plastic cups. I then took a Tim Horton’s cup and it worked and it worked with no problem. Previously,I had no problems with McDonalds K Cups.

I have had problems with McDonalds KCups also, I suspect they are low quality – I also tried to contact them about it and they did not even bother to respond.
